What can I expect during my massage?
For your first massage you will be asked to fill out a
intake / healthy history form. The purpose of this form is to assess your
general level of health as well as get all your contact and consent for massage
information on file.
You will be asked to undress to your level of
comfort. Generally people get completely undressed or at least down to
their underwear bottoms. You will be completely covered by sheets
throughout your massage except fo the parts of your body being worked on at the
time.
The most important thing to remember throughout your
massage is you should not feel pain during your session. For deep tissue
/ injury rehabilitation massages you are expected to feel some discomfort, but
only as much as you can handle. The general rule is on a scale of 1 to
10, 1 being nothing, and 10 being the most excruciating pain you've ever felt,
the massage should never get above a 7. A 7 is generally described as the
point where you can breathe through the intensity of the work being done.
This is different from person to person.
What can I expect after my massage?
After your massage there are several things you may feel.
1st - You may feel a lot looser in areas that were previously restricted
2nd - You may feel an increased range of motion in specific and general
movements depending up the work done.
3rd - You may feel increased awareness of your body.
4th - You may feel a little "out of it" for the first several minutes
after you get off the table. This will subside shortly
5th - You may feel some soreness if the muscles were extra tight or
restricted before the massage. This should feel like a “workout soreness”
and will subside within a day or two leaving you feeling much better than
before the massage.
